What one village coffee shop taught us about loyalty
One small independent, a stamp-card scheme with no app, and a few months of real data. The numbers are small, but they show what a local business learns once it can see who comes back.
The setup
Staamp is a loyalty platform for small independents. It has been running at Lizette's, a village coffee shop, since June 2026. There is no app to download. A customer scans a code, opens their card in the phone's browser and gets a stamp with each coffee. The owner can see who is coming back, and the shop builds an email list it did not have before.
The numbers so far
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Customer cards created | 32 |
| Cards with at least one stamp | 25 |
| Customers with two or more stamps | 20 |
| Customers with three or more stamps | 15 |
| Stamps (coffees) collected in total | 106 |
| Customers who opted in to email | 16 of 32 |
Read from the shop's live staff dashboard on 5 October 2026, with Lizette's agreement. One stamp is one coffee. The dashboard does not report rewards redeemed or a repeat rate, so we have not claimed either. The two-or-more and three-or-more counts are our own tally of the customer list.
What we noticed
- People come back if there is a reason. Of the 25 customers who have collected a stamp, 20 have collected at least two, which is four in five. Fifteen have collected three or more.
- Email opt-in is realistic. Half of all customer cards, 16 of 32, come with an email address. That is a list the shop never had.
- Sign-up is not the same as use. Seven cards have no stamps at all. People sign up and never come back to the counter, and a paper card hides that completely.
What this does not prove
One shop is not a trend. The sample is small, the shop is in a village where many customers already know each other, and we have no sales figures to show whether the scheme changed what people spend. We will keep reporting as the data grows, including when it is unflattering.
Why we built it
Small independents deserve the same tools big chains have, at a price that makes sense for them. Staamp costs GBP 29 a month. Read the case study or visit staamp.co.uk.
